Bob and Conrad Connor are 6th generation loggers who are big proponents of managed forest lands. Some hardwood stands owned by their family are on their 8th thinning and have been managed by the family for 100 years.

Loggers Six Generations Strong

What happens when cousins attend the same university in two different locations, earn two different degrees and then decide to go into business together? Connor Forest Management, LLC is born.

Bob Connor, Jr. and Conrad Connor, are just 28 years old and the sixth generation of loggers in their family. Both attended the University of Wisconsin (Conrad at Green Bay and Bob at Stevens Point); however, Conrad graduated with a business degree and Bob graduated with a forestry together. Combine those two, and you have a partnership made in logging heaven.

Bob is the “woods boss” and Conrad is the “office boss,” according to their descriptions. Bob runs all things in the field day to day and Conrad is responsible for all things in the office of this Laona, Wisconsin-based business.

They currently run their operation with a total of 30 employees – 10 are in the mill operation and 20 are on the logging/trucking side.

Bob began doing forestry consulting work in college in 2009. Conrad joined the business as a partner upon graduating from college in 2012. In 2015, they bought out a local logging operation that included six log trucks, all equipment, the shop, seven crews, and all logging contracts. In the spring of 2017, they purchased a sawmill operation and have now expanded to 13 crews with 10 log trucks on the road.

The core of their business is private sales but they also do county, state, and federal sales. Obviously, the business focuses on logging and sawmilling but they also handle road building and excavating. They cut logs, hardwood and softwood pulp, pine, and aspen bolts and sell what they don’t use at their own mill to other area mills.

Their fleet consists of many pieces of John Deere Equipment, including the following:

  • 1110E eight-wheel Forwarder
  • 650K Crawler Dozer
  • 550G Crawler Dozer
  • 544K Wheel Loaders (2)
  • 333E Compact Track Loader with various attachments

“We like the comfort of the machine, particularly the cab on the 1110E,” said Bob Connor, Jr. “The equipment is dependable and easy to use. The 1110E is advanced enough to offer all the latest technology, but still simplistic enough to manage, maneuver, and work on ourselves when needed.”

“McCoy Construction & Forestry takes good care of its customers,” Bob explained. “We’re especially happy with our territory manager, Ryan Castellion.

The Connor family pioneered logging in this part of Wisconsin and have managed forest lands owned by the family for 100 years. In fact, Laona was formed as a town in 1909 and served primarily as a company town for the Connor enterprises, including The R. Connor Company which began there in 1872.
