Devon Bunker Excavating Inc.

For the Love of Dirt

“We love to play in the dirt” is the slogan for Devon Bunker Excavating, Inc., Bemidji, Minnesota. But the family business does more than just play in the dirt. They deliver everything from demolition to site prep with some landscaping along the way.

Owners, Devon Bunker and his wife, Rebecca, opened the business in 2005. Devon was no stranger to construction. He began at the age of 10 working for his grandfather running a loader on a road building crew. At the ripe old age of 14, he graduated to a John Deere 750B Dozer. “My grandfather gave me a great start in the construction business,” Devon remembered.

After working for his grandfather’s business, Bunker Construction in Flandreau, South Dakota, he moved on to work for Gladen Construction in Laporte, Minnesota for eight years as an excavator operator.

In his own business, Devon’s fleet consists of a John Deere 120D Excavator, 550H Dozer, 544E Loader, a Caterpillar 287C, two screening plants and two tandem dump trucks, plus rolloff boxes for demolition.

“We like Deere equipment for the reliability,” explained Devon. “We have very little downtime between Deere equipment and McCoy Construction & Forestry’s parts and service availability,” he said.

The Bunkers spend their downtime in Turtle River, just north of Bemidji, close enough to Bemidji for construction jobs with plenty of lakes for lakeshore work. You might say that they are never far from doing the work they love.
